Pittsburgh Player Lands $1M Top Prize on a $50 Pennsylvania Scratch-Off

A $50 Million Dollar Win It All scratch-off sold at a Pittsburgh convenience store has landed its holder a $1 million top prize — the first of the game's 20 jackpots to be claimed, with 19 still in play.

The Pennsylvania Lottery has confirmed that a $1 million top-prize scratch-off ticket was sold at a shop in Pittsburgh — and at the time of writing, the lucky ticket-holder still hasn't stepped forward to claim the life-changing sum.

Allegheny County store sells the golden ticket

According to the lottery's official release, one of its Allegheny County retailers sold a Million Dollar Win It All scratcher worth a cool $1,000,000. As the game's name makes clear, that's the biggest payout a player can hope to pull from one of these tickets.

Officials named the lucky store as Nilkanth Convenience Corp, trading as Uni-Mart, at 1601 Lowrie Street in Pittsburgh. For its part in the win, the shop pockets a $5,000 selling bonus.

The Pennsylvania Lottery is urging the winner to sign the back of the ticket straight away and get in touch as soon as possible. Prizes must be claimed within one year of the drawing or purchase date — so there's a clock ticking on this seven-figure payday.

Why signing the ticket comes first

The instruction to sign the back is not a formality. A scratch-off is a bearer instrument: whoever holds it can present it, and an unsigned ticket offers no way of proving who bought it. A signature converts a piece of paper that anyone could claim into one tied to a named person.

The one-year claim window is equally firm. Unclaimed prizes are a regular feature of every lottery — tickets get lost, forgotten in a coat pocket, or thrown away by someone who never checked them — and once the deadline passes the money does not sit waiting. In Pennsylvania, as in most US states, unclaimed prize funds are redirected under the lottery's own rules rather than held indefinitely for a winner who never appears.

First of 20 top prizes to go

Million Dollar Win It All is a $50 game that launched with 20 top prizes of $1 million up for grabs. The Pittsburgh ticket is the first of those jackpots to be claimed, meaning 19 remain unclaimed and still in play.

Beyond the headline prizes, the game also carries 25 second-tier awards worth $100,000 apiece. Anyone curious about the remaining prizes can check the full breakdown on the Pennsylvania Lottery's website.

How a $50 scratch-off is actually built

The price point explains the prize structure. Instant games are printed as a finite pool of tickets with a predetermined number of winners at each level, and the more expensive the ticket, the richer that pool is designed to be — both in the size of the top prize and in the frequency of smaller wins.

That also means the odds on an instant game are not fixed in the way a draw game's are. Every claimed top prize permanently removes one from the pool, so a game late in its life may still be on sale with few or no major prizes left. This is precisely why lotteries publish a live remaining-prizes page, and why checking it is the single most useful thing a scratch-card player can do before buying.

With 19 of the 20 million-dollar prizes still out there, this particular game is early in its run rather than late — the scenario in which the advertised odds most closely match what is actually left in circulation.

Three-way $2M split just days earlier

The Pittsburgh windfall lands hot on the heels of another Pennsylvania payout. A few days ago, three separate Cash 5 with Quick Cash tickets matched every number in the Monday, June 29 drawing, splitting a $2,000,001 jackpot — around $666,667 each before tax.

The winning line was 4-5-6-29-31. Those tickets were sold at First Stop Tobacco Shop in Morrisville Boro, Bucks County, and at an Exxon in Upper Darby Township, Delaware County — with the Exxon accounting for two of the three winners. Each store collects a $5,000 bonus for its trouble.

A three-way split on a single draw is less unusual than it sounds. Low-number games such as Cash 5 attract a heavy concentration of picks around sequential runs and common date-based combinations, which is why a line like 4-5-6-29-31 can produce multiple winners on the same night while a scattered set of higher numbers rolls over for weeks.

The retailer bonus, twice over

One detail links both stories: the $5,000 paid to each selling store. Retailer bonuses are a standard feature of US lotteries, and they serve a purpose beyond rewarding luck — they give shops a direct financial incentive to stock, promote and correctly handle tickets, and they turn a winning sale into local publicity that benefits the operator as much as the store.
