Ten new games hit Xbox on 22 October, led by the HD-2D JRPG Final Fantasy Resonance, plus Dodo Duckie on Game Pass and Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5.

Thursday is a busy day for Xbox players. Ten new games arrive on the Xbox Store on 22 October 2026, led by Square Enix’s Final Fantasy Resonance, a classic turn-based adventure that brings the series back to its pixel-art roots and is already one of the best-reviewed JRPGs of the year. Game Pass members get a charming platformer, retro fans get a bundle of 90s arcade sports games, and Cyberpunk 2077 picks up one of its biggest updates in years.

Today on Xbox at a glance

Date: Thursday, 22 October 2026
New releases: 10 games on Xbox Series X|S, PC and Cloud
Headliner: Final Fantasy Resonance (HD-2D JRPG, free demo available)
Game Pass: Dodo Duckie (Ultimate, Premium and PC Game Pass)
Also today: Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 with cross-platform mod support

Final Fantasy Resonance: the headline release

The big one is Final Fantasy Resonance, launching on Xbox Series X|S, PC and Cloud. Square Enix has rebuilt the story of its mobile RPG Brave Exvius as a full console adventure in the HD-2D style, which blends detailed pixel-art characters with modern lighting and 3D environments. The official pitch invites players to “return to the pixel-art world of Final Fantasy”, travel with companions bound by fate and call on powerful Visions in battle to uncover the force that threatens to bring everything to ruin.

The game is built around old-school, turn-based combat. A flexible job system lets players shape each party member’s role, while the Vision system adds summon-style allies with their own abilities. Overworld exploration, a big musical score and a traditional quest structure complete the package. For fans who have spent years asking for a new turn-based Final Fantasy, this is the closest thing in a long time.

Critics are impressed. Early reviews across PS5, Switch 2 and Xbox mostly land between 8/10 and 9.5/10, with praise for the visuals, the combat and the soundtrack. The most common complaint is a fairly predictable story, and one or two reviewers were more lukewarm. Even so, it has quickly become one of the standout RPG launches of the autumn.

Try before you buy: a free demo of Final Fantasy Resonance is available on Xbox, so you can test the combat and the HD-2D look before committing. A Steam version follows on 23 October.

Game Pass: Dodo Duckie

Today’s Game Pass addition is Dodo Duckie, available to Ultimate, Premium and PC Game Pass members on Series X|S, PC and Cloud. You play as a duck with a special cap that lets you switch between 2D and 3D at will, using the shift in perspective to explore, solve puzzles and rescue your chicken friends. It is a light, family-friendly platformer, perfect for a short session between bigger games.

Gaelco Sports Collection: 90s arcade action

Retro fans should look at the Gaelco Sports Collection, released on console and PC as part of the QUByte Classics range. It bundles five arcade sports games from Gaelco, the Spanish studio that was a big name in 90s arcades. The focus is on fast reflexes and instant fun instead of complex simulation, which makes it a good pick for local multiplayer and quick nostalgic sessions.

Rockstar co-studio head Rob Nelson has given Famitsu the most detailed GTA 6 interview yet, and most of it covers ground the Extended Look never touched — warning shots and suppressive fire, hideouts that show their contents on the map, lock-picking tools, digital key cloners for luxury cars, and a new "Heat" state where police investigate your description rather than simply chase you. The game lands on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on 19 November 2026.
